Vanko Georgiev Urumov was born in 1941 in Varna, Bulgaria.
In 1971 he graduated from the Academy of Arts, in the class of Prof. Panayot Panayotov, majoring in painting.
He works in the fields of painting, graphics, monumental sculpture, applied art (frescoes, ceramic panels, tapestries). His bronze sculptures decorate public buildings in Sofia and Varna. His works are owned by the National Art Gallery, the Sofia Art Gallery, the galleries in Dobrich and Burgas, the national libraries in Washington and Paris, private collections in Bulgaria and abroad.
He is energy. His art is emotional, passionate, expressive.
Vanko Urumov achieves depth in art because he is brave. The author does not submit to canons and academic norms, despite his mastery of technical drawing.
In the ceramic panel "People" he deliberately relies on a frieze-type composition, developing the forms on a sketch principle. This incompleteness creates the feeling that the works were created in one breath. The power of color, massiveness and the power of form are important in them.
Urumov captures in his works a fundamental element of the Bulgarian nationality.
