42 film projects applied for financial support
The special commission, gathered to evaluate the projects for the first film session of NDK finished its work later last night. There are lots of interesting and new producers, independent crews of young artists, promising debuts, well known documentary directors, film directors with innovation attitude together with experienced professionals.
The documentary projects propose an impressive collection of portraits of Bulgarian artists: Margatira Duparinova, Ivan Andonov, Katya Paskaleva, Andrey Batashov, and Vasil Gendov.
The Bulgarian artists overcome the regional interpretation, even while exploring regional themes, members of the commission commented. All of them look for the universal point of view and new ways of cinema storytelling. Thus most of the projects that applied for this session show a market potential not only at home, but also abroad.
Amongst the candidates, there is an impressive adaptation of a short story by Palmi Ranchev and a novel by Milen Ruskov, historical plots, drama, romantic, contemporary and stylish city stories, summer comedies and real adventures about going back to the origins.
“Strong projects were proposed and we hope that we chose to produce the best ones,” the commission member Mr.Vladimir Trifonov said.
Amongst the movies outstood with well written scripts: the new project of the authors of “Love.Net” (Vezdesushtiat - Omnipresent); the historical dramas “Voevoda” by Zornitza Sofia and “Summit” by Viktor Bozhinov (based on the novel of Milen Ruskov); the awaited film by Radoslav Spasov about Lea Ivanova “Singing shoes” (Peeshtite obuvki); “The endless garden” (Bezkraynata gradina) by Galin Stoev and Yana Borisova. Particularly pleasant with their freshness are the surprisingly strong debuts “Smart Christmas” by Maria Veselinova and “Radiogramophone” by Ruzie Hasanova. Amongst the documentaries must be mentioned the portraits of beloved artists such as Katya Paskaleva (by Georgi Toshev); “Head against the wall” (S glava v stenata) for Andrey Batashov (by Antony Tzankov); “The sinful life of Ivan” (Zhitie greshnogo Ivana) for Ivan Andonov (by Galina Kraleva); “The Foreigner” (Chuzhdenkata) for Julia Krusteva (by Milena Getova and Iskra Anguelova).
NDK is hoping, with its professional PR and marketing support, to transform every one of these projects into a real event for movie fans.
This year NDK can support less than half of the projects, but we believe that it is just the first step in creating the alternative in the Bulgarian movie business,” the director of NDK Mr. Miroslav Borshosh said.
The first session for applications for NDK film grants was announced by Mr. Miroslav Borshosh on a press conference on July 1st at NDK Press club. He then assured the artists that NDK will support with its authority and capacity every valuable project and is offering a full range approach for its realization.
“We want to be partners with producers who count not only on shooting their movies, but also are aware of the situation of the movie market and want to see the result of their efforts. In NDK we gathered an effective managing team and now we have packed halls for every performance because we match the creation of culture with economy principles,” explained then the director of the Palace.
