The 80th birthday of the Sofia Puppet Theater will be celebrated as part of the autumn edition of the "Salon of Arts" with the fun and exciting puppet performance "And We Play Romeo and Juliet" on October 18 in Hall 2, Theater "Azaryan." It retells the great Shakespearean story with a touch of humor and a lot of imagination.
Through the magic of puppets and with a nod to classical drama, the performance introduces children to the world of theater, where puppet and dramatic actors engage in a cheerful "competition" for love, the stage, and applause. The combination of play, music, and visual humor transforms the familiar tragedy into a lively, warm, and entertaining story about friendship, empathy, and the power of imagination.
Director Stoyan Radev adds:
“And We Play Romeo and Juliet” is a performance that tells the well-known Shakespearean story with much love and attention. In our approach, the feud between the Capulet and Montague families begins with a quarrel between the two theatrical families - the dramatic and the puppet artists - and thus a plot unfolds before the audience, where all theatrical means are used to unfold the dramatic events in a very attractive way. The narrative is tailored to the school-age children's audience but is also suitable for anyone who is excited by the eternal themes of life. Although Shakespeare's play is a tragedy, there is a lot of humor in the performance because the author himself is known for playing with the funny and the sad. The message to all viewers is for more understanding, patience, and wisdom, as the power of love becomes destructive if the skill to love is not mastered.”
