Dimitar Panayotov is a Bulgarian artist-painter. He graduated from the "Painting" specialty under Prof. Iliya Petrov at the Academy of Arts in 1951. He was a member of the "Painting" section of the Union of Bulgarian Artists.
Landscape and portrait are the genres that have always attracted Dimitar Panayotov. His numerous nature paintings are dedicated to Sozopol, Balchik or Melnik, to Strandzha Sakar or the Tundzha River. The artist does not paint in nature, but there he collects impressions and makes preparatory sketches. Through saturated, bright colors and generalized forms, he expresses feelings, emotions and moods. Panayotov uses his own painting technique. After layering, scraping and blurring the "capricious" oil pastel, a complex pictorial world with deep colors and rich nuances appears. Cheerful blue-green hills, orange meadows, deep green trees and secluded grayish-white houses come to life on the canvas. The effect of Dimitar Panayotov's oil landscapes is similar, in which he does not seek the specifics of a given place, but celebrates the pure ratio of forms and colors from nature.
In his portraits, the artist approaches nature differently. He strives to convey the features of the model faithfully and accurately, while at the same time capturing the state and mood.
