Ovcharov works in the field of textile design and artistic textiles. Since 1996 he has been a professor of textiles at the National Academy of Arts. He is a member of the Union of Bulgarian Artists. He participated with wall carpets in general art exhibitions of applied arts in 1960, 1964, 1968, 1972, 1974, 1979, 1982 and in many presentations of Bulgarian art outside Bulgaria. His more significant works are the textile sculpture "Chanov" (1967), the wall carpet "Composition" (1968, Paris, private collection), the wall carpet "The Waves" (1970, Art Dialogue Foundation, Paris), the wall carpet "Awakening" (1972, Karandila Tourist Complex), the wall carpet "Old Street" (1973, National Gallery (NG); wall carpet "Flight I", 1974, Museum of Applied Arts, Riga), the wall carpet "Flight II" (1975, NG; wall carpet "The Source", 1976. He has over 1000 realized projects for textile design in the field of printed textiles, nitselkovo and jacquard weaving for the period 1959 -1996, in the Central Textile and Textile Center, MT "Albena" and other textile enterprises. Since 2016 he has been working in the field of painting. He is a co-author of the book "Artistic design of fabrics" (together with Angel Ovcharov).
He is one of the authors who is interested in the purely pictorial moment, letting himself be guided by intuition.
For him, the artistic process is an excitement that he wants to convey to the viewers.
In the wall carpet "Dedication" the excitement is felt through the pictorial palette of forms.
